Advocacy support

Signpost staff can support families who may need help to get their point across at meetings, such as school planning meetings.

We can discuss your situation before the meeting, help you to make yourself heard and negotiate solutions during the meeting, and build your skills and confidence for future meetings.

We can also, with the parent's permission, speak to the young people involved to get their point of view and suggestions, if they are reluctant to speak for themselves. This means that they have a say in the decisions that affect them.

To access this support, please call the office on 01506 431123, or send an email to [email protected] outlining your situation and how you would like us to help.

Please note:

  • this service is popular, so we may not be able to attend every meeting we are asked about
  • we can't help indefinitely; instead we try to give you the skills and tools to manage future meetings confidently without our support.

You may also want to look in our resources section for information about self-advocacy.

Referrals

If a school or other service encounters a family who might benefit from this support, they may, if the family gives permission, contact Signpost to refer the family to us. Please use our referral form or call the office on 01506 431123.
